HAJJ IS THE FIFTH PILLAR OF ISLAM

Umrah on the other hand is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims, that can be undertaken at any time of the year.
In this video, you will be learning everything about Hajj and Umrah, their history, how to perform Hajj and Umrah step by step, and all other relevant information that will give you the confidence to perform Hajj and Umrah according to the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah independently and with complete confidence without depending on the side tour guides.
Let’s begin the journey with the story of Hajj and Umrah
It all started when almighty Allah informed us about the call of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) “to establish the Holy pilgrimage to Makkah.
(27) And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass –
(28) That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days
(97) And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves – then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.

After completing the structure of the Ka’bah, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was commanded by Allah to call the people to Hajj.
(27) And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass –
So Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) climbed a Mountain and called out in his loudest voice: O People! Verily Allah has prescribed upon you Hajj, so perform Hajj.”
People from all over the world responded to Prophet Ibrahim’s (peace be upon him) call by coming to Makkah. And they continue to come every year since then. Today millions upon millions of Muslims continue the call of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).

As mentioned earlier, Hajj is the fifth pillar upon which Islam stands. Allah made it compulsory for every able Muslim male and female to perform it, at least once in a lifetime.
Allah revealed: Performance of the Hajj washes away all sins.
The Prophet said, “Whoever performs Hajj and does not commit any obscenity or transgression, he returns (free from sin) as the day his mother bore him” (Sahih Bukhari).
The Messenger of Allah Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no reward for Hajj Mabroor other than Paradise.”
Now that you know about the history of Hajj, let’s step by step go through the complete journey.
Going on Hajj involves a great deal of physical, financial, spiritual and social sacrifices. For this journey of a lifetime, you must prepare yourself starting with the right mindset and being serious about your pilgrimage.
Firstly:
(5) And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
your intention should be purely for the sake of Allah
“Actions are according to intentions, and everyone will get what was intended.
Secondly: Your worship has to be in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
The Messenger (ﷺ peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Take your rituals (of Hajj) from me”
The Messenger (ﷺ peace and blessings be upon him) said:
{‘Perform Hajj and ‘Umrah consecutively; for they remove poverty and sin as the bellows removes impurity from iron. An accepted Hajj brings no reward but Paradise.}, Nartted by Imam Al-Tirmizi

The road map for a Hajj Mabroor is amazingly simple & easy. If a pilgrim obtains & observes them, they will surely earn the ultimate prize. Here are the Hajj Mabroor Components:

  1. The intention, sincerity for Allah.
  2. The following teaching of the Prophet peace be upon him.
  3. Cautions: avoiding prohibited actions.
  4. The reward of a Hajj Mabroor is Paradise.

Lets start our hajj journey
The first step for Hajj and Umrah is to start preparing for Ihram
Ihram can be considered a spiritual and physical state that someone enters before performing Hajj or Umrah,
While in the state of Ihram certain actions are prohibited for the pilgrims.
They are Hunting. Killing insects, animal unless they are dangerous. Engaging on Sexual relation. Preforming or talk about marriage. Wearing perfume. Wearing sewn clothes by men. Wearing footwear that cover the ankles. Outrage (Fusouq). Arguing or Fighting. Killing insects, animal unless they are dangerous. Beautifying oneself. Applying oil perfume. Removing hair from the body. Covering the head, for males, or Covering of the face by females. Cutting nails. Or Extracting tooth.

Ihram contains several steps which must be completed before crossing a pilgrim’s specific Miqat. In the correct order, these steps are:

  • Sunan al Fitrah. This step includes the cleanliness obligations such as clipping your nails, trimming your mustache, removing the hair around your armpits and private parts.
  • Taking a bath + ghusl and applying oil perfume to your body
  • Wearing the clothing of Ihram

For men, Ihram clothing is two white sheets. One that covers the lower portion of the body and the other covering the upper portion of the body.
For women, Ihram clothing is regular Muslim clothing without covering their face and hands.

  • Praying two rakats
  • And finally, stating your intention for Hajj or Umrah followed by talbiyah while riding the preferred mode of transportation while traveling towards Makkah

Pligrim must say his/her intention by saying:
لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً Labbayka allahumma umratan( for Umrah)
Labbayka allahuma Hajjian(for Hajj)
And you may put a condition if you’re afraid you may not complete the rituals for Hajj or Umrah
You may state this condition by saying:
Allahumma mahillee haithu habastanee

Then you start your Talbiyah until you reach the Ka’bah
The Sunnah method of reciting the Talbiyah is to briefly pause at four places, indicated by the lines. The prayer is as follows:

After arriving to Makkah, you check in your Hotel, you may refresh yourself , then get ready to visit the Great Mosque (Al-Masjed Al-Haram)
When you are entering Al-Masjed Al-haram enter with your right foot and say:
بِسْمِ اللهِ والصَّلاَةُ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَى رَسُوْلِ الله
“Bismillahi wassalatu wassalamu alaa Rasoolillahi”
“A’outhu billahil-a’adtheem, wa bi waj’hihilka-reem, wasultaanihilqadeem, minashaytaanir-rajeem, Alhamdummaftahlee abwaabarahmatik.”

The second step of Umrah is Tawaf al Qudoom/ Arrival Tawaf.
Tawaf practically contains four parts which are:

  • Tawaf is Circling around the Kabba.
  • Praying behind Maqam Ibrahim.
  • Drinking Zamzam water.
  • Returning to the Kabbah for Istilam.
Step 1:

Tawaf is walking around Kaaba seven times consecutively in a counterclockwise direction, while keeping the Ka‘bah on your left, inside the masjid, and starting from the Black Stone location and ending at it, If you cannot walk you can also ride. While reciting supplications, pilgrims may recite Quran, remembrance of Allah or read any supplication, prayers, requests and wishes to Allah.
Start with facing the Black Stone at the start of the Tawaf while uttering Basmallah & Takbir (بسم الله الله أكبر) Bismi Allah, Allahu-Akbar(and raise your hand in direction to the black stone as if you are pointing to it. If possible, you may kiss or touch it.
Sunnah for men only specifically includes performing the following steps:

  • Idibaa is the revealing of a man’s right shoulder while performing this Tawaf. Also, if the call for prayer occurs during your Tawaf, you must cover your shoulder while praying. When you complete your prayer, you should uncover your shoulder again to complete the remaining circles for Tawaf. And cover it when the Tawaf is completed.
  • Raml means walking quickly but not running or jogging for the first three rounds. Then returning to a normal walking step for the remaining four rounds.
Sunnah for both men and Women:
A pilgrim including both male and female making Tawaf if possible without fighting and harming others, can touch these two corners (the Black Stone & Yemeni Corner), and no other corner. Touch the Yamani corner only by hand. There should not be any kissing.

The supplication at the Tawaf is the circumambulation of the Ka’bah:
The pilgrim may recite Quran, make (dhikr) remembrance of Allah or read any supplication, prayers, requests and wishes to Allah whether for this life or life after death. It is recommended that to be from the sunnah supplications, otherwise it can be made in any language. There is no particular supplication reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this regard except that he used to recite between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, the following Quranic verse:
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
{Rabbana aatina fi addunya hasanatan wafi al-aakhirati hasanatan waqina ‘athaab annaar.}
This translates to : Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good & in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
Repeat the same steps in all seven rounds and the Tawaf will get completed. The men can now cover their uncovered right shoulders.

Step 2: Is offering a Two Rak’ah Prayer After Tawaf

The pilgrim should reach Maqam Ibrahim and stand in a way where it is between the performer and the Kaaba(if possible). Now recite:
“Wattakhithu min Maqaami Ibraheema musallaa.”
Offering a two rak’ah prayer after completing the Tawaf (if possible) behind the Station of Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him) or at any other place in the Sacred Mosque.
In those two rak’ah prayer, it is sunnah to recite Surah Al-Kafirun(Surah#109), in the first rak ‘ah, and Surah Al-Ikhlas(Surah#112), in the second rak ‘ah, after reciting Surat Al-Fatihah.

Step 3: Is drinking Zamzam water

Once the seven rounds of the Tawaf is completed and after offering the two rak’ahs by the Station of Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him), it is Sunnah(way of the prophet) to drink water from the well of Zamzam, as much as he/she can.
A person drinking Zamzam water should intend and hope for healing, blessings and whatever is best for him in this life and in the hereafter. The Prophet (ﷺ peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The water of Zamzam is (good) for whatever it is intended.”
*Show a man making Islamic supplication before drinking ZamZam, saying bismillah (in the name of Allah), followed by drinking ZamZam water and then pouring it on his head and watching his face while supplicating to Allah).

Step 4: Is the excellence of Supplications at Al-Multazim

Al-Multazim is the part of the Ka’bah between its door and the Black Stone. After drinking Zamzam water, it is recommended that one should make special supplications at Al-Multazim.
From the sunnah, if you can, try to stick your chest to the Multazim and make dua, although this may not be possible during the time of the pandemic.
Ibn ‘Abbas reported that he used to stand between the Black Stone corner and the Ka’bah door and said, “The space between the Black Stone and the door of the Ka’bah is called ‘Al Multazim’ and whoever stands here and supplicates to Allah, he gives him whatever he supplicates for.” (Al-Baihaqi).
After completing all the components of Tawaf, pilgrims move on to perform Sa’i which is the walk between Mount Safa and Marwah.
Sa’i is one of the essential rites of Hajj and Umrah and refers to the ritual of walking back and forth seven times between the two small hills of Safa and Marwah. Starting from Safa and ending from Marwah.

After completing your Tawaf follow these steps for Sa’i
1. walk to Safa and on approaching Safa you must recite:
The Qur’anic verse 2.158:
(إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ ۖ فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَن يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا ۚ وَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ)
“Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So, whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs ‘Umrah – there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good – then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing “.
And when you are on Safa, then say:
” نَبْدَأُ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِه I begin with what Allah Himself began”.

The pilgrims must climb Safa until they can see the Ka’bah or face its direction from where they stand. They face the Ka’bah, and proclaim three times, Allah’s Oneness, glorify Him, praise Him, and then say, “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. He has no partners. To Him belongs the kingdom and all praise. He alone grants life and causes death; He has power over all things. There is no God but He. He has fulfilled His promise, given victory to His servant, and He alone defeated the confederates.”
Pilgrim repeat these words three time and recite supplications between them.
Then you walk from Safa toward Marwah.
Recite supplications between Safa and Marwah: . Making supplications, remembrance of Allah, and reciting the Qur’an while walking between Safa and Marwah are all desirable. It is reported while making Sa’I, Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to supplicate, “O my Lord, forgive me, and have mercy upon me. You are the most Honorable, most Dignified.”
For men jogging between these two green markers is preferable, but walking is also permissible or riding between them.
Walk toward Marwah and climb it until you can see the Ka’bah or face in its direction. There, you make supplications as you had at Mount Safa.
Keep repeating this till you complete seven rounds forth and back and end on Marwah. without reparation of the Qur’anic verses mentioned on points 1 and 2.
Once the Sa’i is completed, the next step for Umrah is Halq or Tqsir. It is an obligatory act where men shave or trim their hair, but women must trim the hair by one inch. This act get them out of the riual state of Ihram and complete their Umrah.

Now that your Umrah is completed:

  • Exit from the state of Ihram.
  • Respect Makkah, stay clean spiritually, physically, practice kindness and do not pollute or dirt this Holy City.
  • Performing various forms of worship such as Qu’ran reciting, adhkar, sadaqah (charity), and try your best to perform all your obligatory and voluntary prayers in Masjid al-Haram and perform tawaf as much as you can.
  • Relax, make sure to rest as Hajj is very challenging on your body and requires good health and energy, do not make yourself worn-out and exhausted.

8Th of of Dhu Al-Hijjah, it’s a frist day of Hajj:
Tarwiyah is the eighth day of the Islamic month of Dhu Al-Hijjah where pilgrims make the journey of Hajj pilgrims from Mecca city to Mina city.

On this day, you are performing Hajj Tamattu’ and should assume the state of Ihram from Makkah, as you did the first time at the miqat, before proceeding to Mina.
Here are some important instructions for the preparation, timing and intention for Ihram.

  • Preparation for Ihram: It is preferred to make sunan al fitrah, ghusl, apply perfume on the body and hair for men and all other steps before Ihram as you prepare for your first Ihram.
  • Ihram Timing: It is sunnah for the “Mutamati’” to enter Ihram before midday (the sun passes its zenith)
  • Ihram Intention: Make the intention of assuming Ihram for Hajj by saying:

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ حَجّاً Labayka allahuma Hajjian
and if you are afraid of an obstacle that prevents you from completing your Hajj you can say:
“فإن حبسني حابس فمحلي حيث حبستني”
meaning “and if there was an obstacle preventing me from completing the Hajj, then I exit the state of Ihram at the occurrence of such obstacle”. If you are not afraid then you are not required to say it.
The pilgrimage starts from Makkah and moves to Mina after sunrise and before noon.
While riding the bus in Ihram clothes you recite the Talbiyah. The Sunnah method of reciting the Talbiyah is to briefly pause at four places, indicated by the dashes.

Here is the prayer:

After arriving in Mina on the 8th day of Dhul Hijah you stay until the next day after sunrise on the 9thday of Dhul Hijah.
Throughout the day you constantly repeat Tabliya and remembrance of Allah.
Shorten the prayers with 4 rakaa’ (Duhr, Asr, Isha) without joining prayers, while making sure to pray in the congregation and making sure to pray Witr.
Relax and stay focused in your Hajj. Avoid whatever can distract you in performing Hajj as you are out of your normal and comfortable zone. Also, it is important to exercise patience and kindness to all. Try to sleep early, as the next few days are going to be extremely busy.
Wake up early for Fajr prayer, about 1 hour before Fajr, make wudu, prepare yourself to pray Fajr in the congregation.

Action after fajr prayer, perform your adhkar and continue your talbiyah *show pilgrims praying fajr together and then making talbiyyah and takbir*
Preparation for Arafa day: If you can, refresh yourself before heading towards Arafa. If you can, take a bath and clean yourself.
Next comes the Day of Arafah that falls on the 9th day of Zhul-Hijjah. It is the holiest day in the Islamic calendar.
Staying in Arafah is the major pillar of Hajj. The Prophet said:“Hajj is (staying in) Arafah. الحجُ عرفة”
After the sunrise of the 9th day of Zhul-Hijjah, it is sunnah to leave for Arafah .
Start moving to Arafa after the sunrise of the 9th of Dul Hijah.
Pilgrims starts moving from Mina to Arafa after sunrise & before noon.
The Sunnah method of reciting the Talbiyah is to briefly pause at four places, indicated by the dashes. The prayer is :

Uttering Takbir ( الله أكبرAllahu Akbar), Tahlil ( لا إلاه إلا اللهLa ilaha il-lal-lah), and Talbiyah (La-baika Allahumma lab-baik)

After reaching your place in Arafah, relax to preserve your energy and stay focused in your Hajj. Make sure you do your best to get the acceptance of Allah and to be forgiven and to be free from the hellfire. Avoid whatever distracts you , while focusing on your Hajj, as you are out of your normal and comfortable zone, exercise extra patience and kindness to all. It is also important to understand that the next few days will be very busy.
Pray Duhr and Asr while joining and shortening (at Duhr time).
The time for staying in Arafah starts from the Dhuhr Prayer on the 9th Dhul-Hijjah to Sunset, however it ends at the Fajr Prayer on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah.
At the place of supplications, it is recommended that the pilgrim makes remembrance of Allah and sincere supplication to Him and presents him/herself as a poor slave begging his/her master for forgiveness and blessings. It is recommended to raise your hands while supplicating. Repeating the Talbiyah and reading Qur’an is a good thing to do as well.
The Prophet (ﷺ peace and blessings be upon him) also said: “The best supplication is that of the Day of Arafah, and the best thing that I and other Prophets before me said, is:
لا إلهَ إلاَّ اللَّه وحْدهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لهُ، لَهُ المُلْكُ، ولَهُ الحمْدُ، وَهُو عَلَى كُلِّ شَيءٍ قَدِيرٌ

La ilaha illa allahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamdu wa huwa `ala kulli shai’in qadeer “.
Which means {There is no god but Allah alone. He has no partners. To Him belong the sovereignty and all praise. He has power over all things}.
The travel from Arafa to Muzdalifah is organized by transportation which could be a bus or train. It requires a lot of patience because there are a lot of people and you must wait for your turn. Do not try to walk, it is not worth it. Also, you may easily lose your group. So stay with your group at all times, but stay spiritually with Allah.
Keep in your mind and tell yourself this- whenever you faced a challenge – :
“ There is no power nor strength except by Allah , O Allah I’m preforming hajj for you alone, whatever challenge I’m facing, Allah will reward me for it, there is No argument in Hajj Mabroor, O Allah support me , O Allah grant me a Hajj Mabroor, ”
Pilgrims start moving from Arafa to Muzdalifah after sunset & before the dawn of the next day while saying the Talbiyah.

Next comes the night of Muzdalifah which is after the sunset of the 9th of Dulhjjah.
Start traveling from Arafa to Muzdalifah with tranquility and calmness. Praying Maghrib and Isha while joining and shortening with a single Athan and two iqamah whenever you arrive at Muzdalifah.
Try to sleep and rest as much as you can, without distraction as the next day is long and there will be many activities that must be done.
Spending the night in Muzdalifah is a must, however, it is permissible for pilgrims with challenges, such as old age, sickness, a disability, etc., to depart from Muzdalifah after midnight. Others must stay in Muzdalifah.
Praying Fajr at the beginning of its time, then repeating remembering of Allah,Takbir, testifying the oneness of Allah and supplicating to Allah with whatever you wish from the blessings of this world and the Hereafter from where he stands in Muzdalifah.

The pilgrim departs from Muzdalifah before sunrise and continues his/her Talbyah until they arrive at ‘Jamrat Al-Aqabah’. While traveling from Arafa to Muzdalifah maintain tranquility and calmness.
Then comes the Yawmu Al-Nahr. Which is the 10th of Dul Hijjah.
The day of Nahr is considered the best day in the sight of Allah out of the entire year.
This is THE DAY; it is the busiest day of your Hajj in regard to rites that pilgrims must perform.
Exercise patience, kindness, be free from any arguments, and stay connected with Allah.
The rituals of the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah are performed in a set order:

  • Throwing the pebbles at ‘Jamrat Al-Aqabah’.
    Offering the sacrifice (Hady).
  • Al-Halq or Al-Taqsir which is shaving or shortening of the hair on your head
  • Performing Tawaf Ifadah.
  • Performing Saey between Safa and Marwa.
  • Then Returning to Mina for overnight sleep and the days of Tashreeq.

Observance of these rites in this sequence is the sunnah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had performed. However, it is still an approved sunnah if one of these rites is performed before or after another. Therefore, there is no harm in changing the order according to most scholars because the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved this.
The pebbles are collected from Muzdalifah or on the road to Mina. Stones for the Rajm should be found in their natural state, rather than broken from larger rocks, rock should be the size of a pea.
For Rami which is the act of throwing the Stones at Jamarat (Jamarat Basin), the pilgrim stands facing Jamrat al-Aqaba so that Mina is to his right side and Makkah to his left side. After that, raising his right hand above his shoulder to throw his pebbles, not from the side or otherwise, the stones should be thrown calmly and may not be thrown violently. The pilgrims throw 7 pebbles one by one at the ‘Jamrat Al-Aqabah’, saying “Allahu Akbar” with each throw. No supplication after throwing your Jamrat at ‘Jamrat Al-Aqabah’.
*show someone performing above actions*
The time for throwing Jamrat Al-Aqabah on the day of Eid is from sunrise until sunset, but for those who are weak and unable to cope with the crowding—women and children—the time is until the end of the night.

Then comes the offering the sacrifice of Hady
(And whosoever performs the Umrah in the months of Hajj, before (performing) the Hajj, (i.e. Hajj al-Tamattu), must sacrifice a Hady such as is easy (i.e. that you can afford).
Offer Hady (slaughtering of the animal), this comes after throwing the pebbles. Nowadays, this will be arranged through the Hajj organizer.
Labaykhajj arranges for the Hady to be carried out around the time its pilgrims complete their Rami in the morning of the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, and the company sends a copy of the official sacrifice confirmation certificate from the Hady official authority.
Head’s Hair Shaving or Trimming, and this must be done on the entire head and not just in certain spots. For the women, they must cut their hair the size of an Anmulah (size of 1/3 of the finger, around 1 inch).
*show two pilgrims entering the barbershop with long and big hair and then showing bald and trimmed hair afterwards, show both choices. One pilgrim with bald and another trimmed and even hair*
After throwing the pebbles and cutting the hair, the pilgrim will enter the stage of the First “At-hallul Al asqar”, where Ihram restrictions will be lifted except intimate relations, which only become lawful after performing Tawaf Ifadah (Altahallul Alakbar).

Then you can visit the Great Mosque and perform Tawaf al-Ifada (Ziyarah). After this, everything becomes permissible, and the pilgrim will exit the state of Ihram, or you may delay Tawaf Ifadah till the 13Th of Dul-Hijjah before sunset.
Fallowed by performing Saey between Safa and Marwa for mutamati’
The Tawaf Ifadah practically contains the same four Tawaf steps:

  • Circling seven rounds around Kabba, in the normal particular manner (no Raml and no Idbaa). It is not in the state of Ihram and men can wear normal clothes.
  • Pray behind Maqam Ibrahim.
  • Drink water Return to Kabbah for Istlam Zamzam Performing Saey between Mount Safa and Marwa
  • Return to Kabbah for Istlam Zamzam

Next is performing Saey between Mount Safa and Marwa, Walk/Sa’i between Mount Safa and Marwah is one of the essential rites of Hajj and Umrah and refers to the ritual of walking back and forth seven times between the two small hills of Safa and Marwah. Starting from Safa and ending from Marwah.
After completed your Tawaf :
. walk to Safa and on approaching Safa you must recite:

Jogging Between the Two Green Markers is preferable, but walking is also permissible or riding between them.
Walk toward Marwah and climb it until you can see the Ka’bah or face its direction. There, you make supplications as you had at Mount Safa.
Keep repeating this till you complete seven rounds forth and back and end on Marwah, without reparation of the Qur’anic varies mentioned on points 1 and 2.

Now you start your journey back to Mina for overnight sleep and be ready for The days of Tashreeq(11th, 12thand 13th of Dul Hijjah) following the day of Eid
The days of Tashreeq are the 11th and 12th if pilgrim is Mutaajil (hasting) and if he is Mutaakhir (delaying) additionally the day of the 13th.
If the pilgrim performed Tawaf and Sai on the day of Eid, he/she must return to Mina and spend the nights & days of the 11th and 12th if he is Mutaajil (hasting) and the night & day of the 13th if he is Mutaakhir (delaying). Islamically, the day starts after sunset and ends at sunset, therefore night comes first followed by day.
Timing for Mutaajil:

  • The stoning on those days (11th Dul-Hijjah) starts after the sun has passed its zenith, i.e., midday when the time for Zhuhr begins until sunset (as preferable time), but it’s permissible to until nighttime (before dawn).
  • For 12th of Dul-Hijjah starts after the sun has passed its zenith, until before sunset, then he must leave Mina before sunset.

Timing for Mutaakhir:

  • The stoning on those days (11th & 12th of Dul-Hijjah) starts after the sun has passed its zenith, i.e., midday when the time for Zhuhr begins until sunset (as preferable time), but its permissible until nighttime (before dawn).
  • For 13th of Dul-Hijjah starts after the sun has passed its zenith, until before sunset, then he must leave Mina after that.

If it is too difficult because of overcrowding, it is permissible to throw the Jamarat at night, until dawn.
Throwing the three Pillars of Jamrat, starts with Jamrah al Sograh then Jamrah al Wosta then Jamrah al Aqabah, each with seven pebbles (one by one) and saying “Bismillah, Allahu Akbar” with each throw.
Supplications after throwing first & Second Pillars. From the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), after throwing the pebbles he would move to the right side of the Jamrah and facing the Qiblah, he would raise his hands and make a long duaa. He only did this at both Jamrah al-Sograh (small pillar) and Jamrah al-Wosta (middle pillar). Therefore, the pilgrim should stand and supplicate to Allah Almighty if he/she can as mentioned above.
After throwing pebbles at Jamrah al Aqabah, there is no supplication as described above.
Spending and investing these days for pleasing Allah in recitation of the Quran, remembering Allah, Takbeer, and any other good deeds.
Spending the night on Mina during these days is wajib (obligatory). If the pilgrim does not, they must compensate with a Hady (slaughtering of the animal).
But if any pilgrim wishes to prolong his/her stay, they can spend the night of the 13th in Mina and observe stoning that afternoon .
Now it’s time for Tawaf Al-Wadaa or Farewel Tawaf طواف الوداع. It is the departure day from Mkakkah.
Now that you are going to leave the sacred sites after completing all the rituals mentioned above, the time has come for the concluding ritual. At this time, you must offer a farewell to the sacred mosque and refresh your eyes with the sight of the Kabah before departing. This is done by performing Tawaf Al-Wada` (Farewell Tawaf), which you should do immediately before leaving Makkah.

The Farewell Tawaf practically contains the same four Tawaf steps:

  • Circling seven rounds around Kabba, in the normal particular manner (no Raml and no Idbaa). It is not in the state of Ihram and people can wear normal clothes.
  • Pray behind Maqam Ibrahim.
  • Drink Zamzam water.
  • Return to Kabbah for Istlam.

Making a farewell supplication and thanking Allah for giving you the opportunity to complete the Hajj, allowing you to visit His House, and asking Him to invite you again and again.

Pilgrim may say this dua narrated from Ibn Abbas:
{Oh Allah I am your slave, and the son of your slaves, You carried me here on what you made available to me, and you brought me through the land till I’ve reached your house, and you helped me in doing this ritual. So if you are pleased with me, than increase your pleasure upon me. And if you are not pleased with me, than I beg you to be pleased with me before I leave your house. So this is my departure if you allow it to be. Not turning away from your, nor your house. Oh Allah grant me good health in my body, and safety with my religion, and grant me a good return, and make me obedient as long as you keep me alive. And grant me both the good of this life and the Hereafter, verily you are capable of all things.}
Now, you have fully completed your Hajj rituals. Thank Allah and ask Him to accept your Hajj and consider it a Hajj Mabroor. Make salawat upon the Prophet peace be upon him, as he gives you glad news of the rewards of a Hajj mabroor in paradise. (Show clean heart and light goes from the head to feet as way of cleaning and washing the body and someone passing him a clean, empty book)
Now, you are returning home. Your book is cleaned by the mercy of Allah. Renew your covenant and submission to Allah and keep it strong until your departure from this world and then you will enjoy His permanent pleasure by His will and mercy.
You are freshly reborn. Reevaluate your past life and where you want to be in the next life and act in accordance to it. May Allah preserve you and reward you with the highest level in Paradise.
